Why I’m Writing About Body Corporate (From a BDM, Family Man, and Strata Owner)

When I made the decision to go into body corporate and strata management, it wasn’t the obvious career path for someone with my background.

I spent 20+ years in business development. I worked with growing companies. I helped build teams, structure deals, and navigate growth. Then I went deeper into the body corporate world, first with Smarter Communities, then with Bright & Duggan Group. And something clicked.

Why I’m writing this

The more schemes I worked with, the more I realised there was a gap.

Committees were trying hard but operating without clear information. Owners were frustrated not because things were bad, but because they didn’t understand what was happening. Managers were stressed because they were managing upward and downward without good tools.

The gap wasn’t about money or resources. It was about clarity. Context. Understanding.

My perspective matters (maybe)

I’m not writing this as a lawyer or a regulation expert. I’m writing as someone who’s been both inside and outside the strata world.

I’ve been the business development guy trying to understand what other businesses need. Now I’m a strata owner, a father of five, and someone who’s worked with hundreds of schemes across South East Queensland and Northern NSW.

That combination gives me a perspective: I see what committees struggle with. I know what owners are confused about. I understand why managers get burned out. And I’ve seen what works when communication, process, and clarity improve.

What I’ll write about

I’ll write about the patterns I see. The misunderstandings that cause conflict. The decisions that go wrong because of missing information. The things that work when committees get it right.

Most of it will be practical. Some will be pushing back on myths that make things harder than they need to be.

All of it comes from seeing how schemes actually work, and what actually helps.

That’s why I’m writing.
